Where the forest
steams.

Chimelong Forest Hot Spring is a hillside of mineral pools threaded through subtropical forest in Qingyuan, Guangdong — ninety minutes north of Guangzhou, and at its most magical at dusk, when the steam rises into the canopy.

01 · The Springs

A hillside of hot springs,
threaded through the trees.

Chimelong Forest Hot Spring sits on a forested hillside in Qingyuan, northern Guangdong — part of the wider Chimelong International Forest Resort. Dozens of mineral pools are laid along the slopes, between bamboo groves, camphor trees and natural rock, so that soaking here feels less like visiting a spa and more like discovering warm springs that were always part of the forest.

The water rises mineral-rich and is channelled into themed pools of different depths and temperatures — flower baths, herbal soaks, cave pools and wide family springs. Come in the late afternoon: watch the light drop through the canopy, order tea at the water's edge, and stay until the steam turns to silhouette against the stars.

Not one pool —
a whole hillside of them.

Bathing under the canopy

The pools climb the slope in terraces, connected by lantern-lit boardwalks. Steam drifts up into camphor and pine, and the sound of the forest replaces the sound of the city. Find a quiet corner pool and claim it as your own for the evening.

Caves, grottos & herbal houses

Some of the best soaks are hidden: stone chambers where the water runs hotter, and herbal pools steeped with mugwort, ginger and tangerine peel. Work your way from mild to hot — two short soaks beat one long scald.

A cove built for kids

Families are squarely catered for. A shallow, gently heated splash cove keeps younger travelers happy for hours, while parents trade off between supervising and actually relaxing — the resort makes both possible.

Night soaks under the trees

This is the moment the place is built for. After dark the lanterns come on, the air cools, the steam thickens, and the hottest pools on the hillside feel like a different world. Stay for it — most travelers do.

Getting there

By car

About 1.5 hours from central Guangzhou, most of it on the expressway. Ample parking at the resort — drive up for the afternoon and back the same evening.

By rail

Take the intercity train from Guangzhou to Qingyuan Station, then a 20–30 minute taxi or Didi ride to the resort entrance.

Make it a weekend

The hot spring shares the valley with Chimelong's forest safari park and hotels. Many travelers pair the two: animals in the morning, mineral water by night.

A perfect day

  1. Arrive & wander

Check in, stash your bag in a locker, and walk the boardwalks to get the lay of the slopes.

  2. Ease in

Start at the mildest pools while the sun is still up. Legs in, shoulders down, phone away.

  3. A long dinner

Rustic Guangdong fare at the resort restaurants — this is not the moment to rush.

  4. Hot pools, cold air

The temperature drops and the steam rolls in. Work up to the 42° cave pool in short, honest sessions.

  5. Last light

Herbal tea at the lounge, one final slow soak, and the walk back out through the lanterns.

Opening hours

Typically 10:00 – 22:00, year-round. Last entry around 21:00 — the evening soaks are the whole point.

Best time to go

October – April, and weekday late afternoons. The colder the air, the thicker the steam.

06 · Good to know

Before you soak.

Six questions every first-timer asks — answered honestly, so nothing surprises you at the gate.

Weekends and public holidays get busy — booking online is the safe bet. Trip.com tickets are instant-confirmation, so you can show the QR code at the gate and skip the ticket line.

Swimwear is the one essential. Towels, lockers and shower facilities are provided; a waterproof phone pouch is worth packing if you want photos of the night soaks.

Yes — it's one of the most family-friendly hot springs in Guangdong. The shallow splash cove is made for kids; just keep them supervised and save the hottest pools for the adults.

October to April, when cool air meets warm water and the steam is at its thickest. Summer evenings work too — the water feels like a gift after a humid day.

Three to four hours for the pools alone; a full day or weekend if you add the safari park next door. Most soakers land on "longer than planned."

Soak in sessions of 15–20 minutes and drink plenty of water. The hottest pools aren't recommended for young children, pregnant travelers, or anyone with heart or blood-pressure conditions — when in doubt, ask the staff.

One last thing

The water is warm.
The forest is waiting.
